1.0 general/gameplay

1.1 when will it be released?
September 7, 2008.

1.2 what is spore?
See this page.

1.3 will you able to create this and that creature?
The editor that comes with Spore will be very versatile. If you’ve played The Sims 2 you can get an idea of what you’ll be able to do. Now multiply that by ten. If you can think of it, you can most likely do it.

1.4 are you confined to one planet?
No. Once you’ve discovered the required technology you’ll be able to colonize other planets and one day even interact with alien lifeforms of other planetary systems.

1.5 how customizable is the game?
The game features a complex 3D editor that lets you change most things in the game, including your own creation. You’ll be able to customize for example plants, vehicles, most likely the terrain and to some extent your base planet.

1.6 what are the different stages in the game?
In total, there are six different phases in Spore. These include: the Tide Pool Phase, Creature Phase, Tribal Phase, City Phase, Civilization Phase, and the Space Phase. Each phase brings something new to the player that will add to your creature as evolution takes place.

The Tide Pool Phase. The Tide Pool Phase is the very first phase in the game where you will be a small single celled creature. Your goal here is to eat other creatures to gain new abilities, evolve, and survive onto the next level.

Creature Phase. After the Tide Pool Phase, comes the Creature Phase. Here, your creature will not be a single celled organism anymore, and can possibly become quite large. In this phase you will be given the choice to move onto land or stay into water.

Tribal Phase. It is now time where you will not only control one creature but a whole tribe of them. Many new elements of Spore will be introduced during this phase. For example, you’ll be able to build tiny villages, improve the way of their live, and form your creatures’ culture as it advances through the Tribal Phase.

City Phase. Cities with totally customizable buildings are to be built during this time period. By using vehicles you interact with other cities.

Civilization Phase. It is now time to go out explore and conquer the world. Good relations with neighboring cities can be made, and wars can be started. This phase is all about the interaction between creatures.

Space Phase. Now that you’ve conquered the entire world, what is better to do than start conquering the universe? Here, you will be able colonize on different planets. Terraforming the planets to produce an atmosphere will be necessary to live on the planet. This is the last stage in the game, and perhaps will take hours of playing time to get to.

1.7 will you be able to name things?
Planets, creatures, cities, stars and systems will most likely be possible to name. Your home planet and creature are confirmed and the rest have been hinted.

1.8 will there be downloads?
Yes, and plenty of them! The game will feature an in-game catalog with downloadable user created content made by other players like planets and creatures. When you explore the surrounding systems and the galaxy the game will automatically insert content that others have created to fill the universe. These can also be adapted so the content resembles what you have created to better fit your style.

1.9 do you have to be connected to the internet when playing?
No. You will have the option browse a web site for content so it’s up to you when you want to be connected.

1.10 will there be weather?
Yes, there will. Rain, storms, thunder and fog have been confirmed.

1.11 how about religion?
You will be able to impress other species with your spacecraft with things such as fireworks and monoliths; thus making them worship you. However it’s still unknown if your own creatures will have religion as we know it.

1.12 can you create flying or underwater animals?
No, you will not. However you will be under water swimming around in the first phase of the game.
